Congratulations to Anna Holton and Sam Bosco from Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School, for receiving Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County Student-Athlete of the Month honours for March 2023! Here is what our teacher-coach nominators had to say about this month’s recipients:
“Since she was 9 years old, Anna has been a Channel Cat. Often, we see the excellent results and personal bests of her various swim meets in Orillia Matters. Last school year, Anna was the first person to approach the PF teacher/coach about starting the team up again after Covid. While we tried, we were unable due to the new Covid restrictions at that time. This school year was Covid free and PF had a team of over 20 students, including Anna. From the first practice, Anna was in the water helping the less experienced swimmers with stroke improvement, form and giving tips on diving. At GBs, Anna placed 2nd in the 200 Freestyle and 3rd in the 100 Back. These times qualified her for OFSAA in Windsor this year. There, Anna placed 7th in Ontario in both of her events. Additionally, the girls relay team in which she was a member, placed in the top 20 in Ontario this year. Bravo Anna! Well done!”
“Sam is a Grade 12 student who epitomizes what it means to be an outstanding student-athlete. While excelling in his studies at Patrick Fogarty, Sam also helped lead the Senior Boys basketball team to a GBSSA Championship and a berth at the OFSAA Championship. He has a deep passion for the game of basketball and his work ethic, leadership and motivation are second to none. Sam is very coachable and always strives to not only be his best but to also bring out the best in his teammates.”
