On Tuesday, June 20, Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County (CSASC) held its highly anticipated second Annual General Meeting (AGM), bringing together secondary teacher-coaches, convenors, and administrators from various SMCDSB schools. The event served as a platform to celebrate the remarkable success achieved in athletics throughout the year, reflect on sport specific needs, and pay tribute to individuals who have made significant contributions to sports over their careers. Building on the accomplishments of the inaugural AGM, this year’s event surpassed expectations, highlighting the commitment and passion for sports within the CSASC community.
Last year’s AGM was a poignant occasion that witnessed the recognition of the late Dean Edgar from St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School in the Coaches category. Additionally, Joe Timmins, Principal, was acknowledged in the Builder category. These outstanding individuals served as role models and inspirations to all, leaving a lasting impact on the sporting community.
This year, CSASC proudly presented the Coaches category awards to Terry Poyslek of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School and Steve Kotlarz of St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School. Both Poyslek and Kotlarz have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication in nurturing young athletes, fostering their skills, and instilling values such as teamwork and perseverance. Through their unwavering commitment, these deserving winners have left an indelible mark on the athletes they have coached and the schools they represent.
The Builder category honors were bestowed upon Liz Payton of Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School and Nick Nicoletta of St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School. Payton’s tireless efforts in enhancing sports programs and creating opportunities for student-athletes at her school have made a significant difference. Similarly, Nicoletta’s immense contributions in developing the sporting infrastructure and promoting a culture of excellence at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School have been instrumental in fostering a love for sports among students.
Thank you to all those who were able to attend and make this year’s second CSASC Annual General Meeting a resounding success!
We can’t wait for the 2023-24 school year!
