Congratulations to Kawon Da Fonte and Sophia Jimenez from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School for their selection as CSASC Student-Athletes of the Month for November! Here is what our teacher-coach nominators had to say about this month’s recipients:
“Kawon is a Grade 9 student-athlete at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham who is known as the rock on the Junior Boys Soccer team. His tenacity, hard work, and determination were on display all season long. He was fearless when fighting for balls in the middle, rarely losing a challenge. He consistently played with a defense first mentality, supporting his teammates with smart, unselfish plays. His efforts helped lead the way to defeating the #1 ranked Holy Trinity Tigers in the CSASC Championship game and advancing to the GBSSA Championship game on October 27 where the Stingers were crowned champions over Twin Lakes Secondary School. Coaches report that this is the first of many GB championships to come for Kawon and his teammates! Way to go Kawon!”
“Sophia is a Grade 11 student-athlete at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham who has represented our school on the tennis court since her Grade 9 year. In Grade 9 she placed first at the CSASC Championships, second at GBSSA Championships and won MVP at the Aquinas Athletic Banquet. In Grade 10, Sophia placed first at CSASC, and this year in Gr. 11, she placed 2nd at CSASC and 3rd at Georgian Bay Championships behind two provincially ranked players. She has qualified for OFSAA and is set to compete against the top high school players across the province in June 2024. The Stingers are so proud of her accomplishments! Congratulations Sophia!”
