Congratulations to Nick Lamont and Kyla Martin from St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School, for receiving Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County Student-Athlete of the Month honours for June 2023! Here is what our teacher-coach nominators had to say about this month’s recipients:
“Nick Lamont is the passionate captain of St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School’s Ultimate Frisbee team. With an unwavering love for the game, Nick has proven himself to be an exceptional athlete, showcasing remarkable versatility as both a strong offensive and defensive player. On the field, he is a true force, utilizing his speed and displaying impeccable catching skills during crucial game moments. However, Nick’s impact goes beyond his outstanding athleticism. He possesses natural leadership qualities that inspire his teammates to excel. Under his guidance, the team achieved a remarkable 6th place finish at OFSAA in Burlington, a testament to Nick’s ability to bring out the best in his fellow players. Nick Lamont is undoubtedly a remarkable athlete and leader, leaving a lasting impact on JOA’s Ultimate Frisbee program.”
“Kyla Martin, a Grade 12 student at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie, has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in both Cross Country and Track & Field. Year after year, she has displayed unmatched dominance in these sports. Kyla’s remarkable talent and relentless dedication have led her to set numerous meet records during her time at JOA. This year, her crowning achievements were winning prestigious Gold medals in both the 1500m and 800m at the OFSAA Championships held in Ottawa. As she prepares to embark on her collegiate journey, Kyla’s future looks incredibly promising. Next year, she will take her skills to the University of Utah, where she will join their esteemed Track & Field and Cross Country teams. With her unwavering determination and remarkable abilities, Kyla Martin is poised to achieve even greater feats in the years to come.”
